A Course in Miracles is just a spiritual self-study program that centers around transforming just how people think of life, relationships, and reality. It teaches that most of the problems people experience come from fear, guilt, and separation in the mind. The structure of the book is divided in to three main parts: the Text, the Workbook for a course in miracles online retreat, and the Manual for Teachers. The Workbook contains 365 daily lessons designed to help students practice new means of thinking and perceiving the world. The Manual for Teachers answers common questions and explains how people can share these teachings with others. Among the central ideas in the course is forgiveness. However, the concept of forgiveness in this teaching is distinctive from the original meaning. In place of forgiving someone for doing something wrong, the course teaches that the perception of wrongdoing itself originates from misunderstanding and illusion. By recognizing that numerous judgments result from the ego or fear-based thinking, students learn to release Anger, resentment, and blame. This process of forgiveness becomes a strong tool for healing relationships and restoring inner peace.

Another key concept in the course may be the idea that the physical world people experience is influenced by their thoughts and perceptions. It suggests that lots of experiences of conflict and suffering come from believing in separation—separation from others, from love, and from a greater spiritual truth. Through practice and reflection, the course encourages individuals to question these beliefs and recognize a deeper spiritual experience of others. By changing how a mind interprets events, people can experience greater peace and understanding.

The daily lessons in the workbook are a significant element of practicing the teachings. Each lesson targets a specific idea, such as for instance letting go of judgment, recognizing the power of your brain, or choosing love instead of fear. Students are encouraged to invest a few minutes every day reflecting on the lesson and applying it to real-life situations. Over time, this practice helps shift mental habits and encourages a calmer, more compassionate outlook on life.
